Percolate Residency: Luke Murphy | 2 – 13 March 2020

Of a Mirror and a Bell is a new multimedia opera installation by composer Jerome Begin and directed by Luke Murphy. The libretto derives from traditional Japanese ghost stories as collected and translated, in 1904, by Lafcadio Hearn. Hearn was raised in Dublin by an Irish father and Greek mother, spent decades living in the United States, and passed the last 14 years of his life in Japan, from which vantage point his writings provided one of the West’s first windows into preindustrial Japanese culture.

Building upon his extensive experience with Punchdrunk, Murphy is approaching this work with a highly inventive new approach to promenade theatre aiming to re-contextualise the experience of Opera performance.

Over the residency Luke and Jerome will collaborate with Dancers Rocio Dominguez and Ben King and Opera Singers Margaret Bridge and Seamus Ludden.
