Open call for dancers based in Ireland

Fri 10 Jul 26

Looking for curious, open‑minded artists ready for international collaboration.

In March and April 2027, Aerowaves, in partnership with Dance Limerick, will invite up to six early-career dancers based in Ireland (including Northern Ireland) to join Artistic Exchange Ireland/ Québec, a project in collaboration with La Danse sur les Routes du Quebéc.

This project is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, La Danse sur les Routes du Québec, CALQ and the Québec Government Office in London.

Artistic Exchange Ireland/ Québec

The selected artists will work with Québec choreographer Alexandre Morin and dramaturge Mathieu Leroux to adapt their acclaimed piece Cutting Through the Noise for a site-specific space at Spring Forward in Limerick.

The work of the Québecois duo Morin/Leroux – Arts vivants merges choreographic precision with dramaturgical depth. They will travel to Limerick to lead a unique process of transmission and adaptation.

Cutting Through the Noise is a physical, sensory piece propelled by an urgent musical score. The original work evokes a youth shaped by the digital age: overstimulated, hyperconnected, yet searching for presence and human connection. Through cycles of transformation, obsessive rhythms, and moments that feel almost like a concert, the piece reclaims movement as a visceral act of freedom.

In Limerick, the duo will adapt this work for a smaller group of performers, shifting it from a stage production for nine dancers into a 20–30-minute experience designed for a non-theatrical environment.

Creative process

Online preparatory session: Irish-based dancers selected for the project will first meet Alexandre and Mathieu online in February/March 2027.

Creative residency: The full creative residency will take place at Dance Limerick from 30 March to 14 April 2027, with rehearsals running Monday to Saturday, approximately 10:00–17:00, with Sundays free. Over these two weeks, the group will explore the physical language of the piece, adapt it to the chosen site, and build a shared performance that reflects both the original work and the new constellation of artists.

Presentation: On 14 April 2027, the work will be shared with the public in Limerick, just before the opening of Aerowaves’ Spring Forward.

What we are looking for & what we offer

We are looking for up to six early career dancers (who have graduated max 4-5 years ago / you are also eligible to apply if you have come through other training routes) based in Ireland who are curious, open-minded, and excited by the idea of working closely with international collaborators. Artists who enjoy working collectively, who are comfortable stepping into non-theatrical spaces, and who are eager to explore a work that blends physical intensity with dramaturgical nuance will find this project especially rewarding.

The six selected dancers will receive a €1,500 fee. Accommodation will be paid and arranged for on your behalf in artist-friendly houses. Please note that no other additional expenses can be supported.
