We invite dance artists with/without additional needs to come together once a month on Monday mornings in a relaxed setting to learn new skills, share, exchange and dance together. Each month a different dance artist with extensive experience in Inclusive Dance Practice will lead the session.
This will support local Limerick dance artists to meet in monthly artist development opportunities, develop their practice and create further inclusive dance environments in Limerick.
The sessions will take place on
11 March, 8 April, 20 May, 10 June, 22 July, 26 August 2024
10.30 am – 1 pm | Dance Limerick Performance Space
All keen to attend, please email Katy Hewison at katy@dancelimerick.ie or call 085 138 9906
These sessions will be delivered by Angie Smalis, Katy Hewison and Claire Keating, Kimberley Harvey, Nicole Watson from Surface Area Dance Theatre, Vanessa GRasse and Rhona Coughlan from Inclusive Dance Cork.
ANGIE SMALIS will facilitate an integrated dance class with guest dance artists from Patterns Dance Collective. Patterns Dance Collective, formed in 2012, consists of contemporary dance artists with intellectual disabilities, located in centres in the Limerick City region under the auspices of AVISTA, Limerick. Patterns has enjoyed a long and successful history of performing locally, nationally and internationally under the direction of Angie Smalis.
KIMBERLEY HARVEY is an independent disabled dance artist. Kimberley has her own dance company, Subtle Kraft Co. Their work centres around relationships in their various forms with connection, communication and curiosity being at the heart of all they do. She was an Artist Advisor for Sadlers Wells (2021-2023) and was the co-curator of the DanceAble Symposium 2022 & 2024 alongside Irene van Zeeland as part of Holland Dance Festival.
SURFACE AREA DANCE THEATRE, Est. 2007 is an award-winning Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation that places accessibility and engagement at the heart of all company endeavours. Based at Dance City in Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland, their work is uniquely relevant and is one of few genuinely working at the interface between Sign Language, D/deaf culture, and dance. The merits and skills of the company’s leaders and members have enabled international engagement with leading UK and internationally celebrated partners and institutes. Cultural exchange is at the core of the company’s mission as we strive to represent the UK’s diverse talents and abilities in all our work.
This initiative is part of a series of integrated dance trainings for adults in Limerick, funded by Limerick City and County Council.
