WECreate Memories⁣

WECreate Productions is the transcontinental company of screendance artists Ana Baer and Heike Salzer. Committed to exploring the possibilities of digital technology in service of collaborative art creation, they produce site-specific interdisciplinary works inspired by their shared fascination of landscapes, places and narratives of sites.⁣

For WECreate Memories Ana and Heike collaborate with dance artist Michelle Nance and visual/textile artist Robert Burton.⁣

Artist Biographies ⁣

Ana Baer Carrillo is a Mexican video-choreographer living in the USA, her work encompasses a⁣ variety of dance for camera work, as well as interdisciplinary performances and choreography.⁣ Internationally active since 1990, Ana Baer Carrillo has been commissioned to make video⁣ installations, multimedia work and/or choreography by the John Cage Foundation, Stadttheather⁣ Giessen and Tanz Compagnie Giessen in Germany, Universidad Michoacana de Morelia and⁣ Contra Danza in Mexico, Performance Inventions in France, Boulder Museum of Contemporary⁣ Art, Michelle Ellsworth, Syzigy Butoh, Michelle Nance and Sweet Edge in the USA, among⁣ others. Her work has been presented in Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Guatemala, Greece, Spain,⁣
France, Ukraine and multiple venues in Germany, UK, Mexico and USA.⁣ She holds a teacher certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance, a BFA in Choreography from⁣ Centro Nacional de las Artes and a MFA in Dance with an emphasis in Video from the University⁣ of Colorado at Boulder.⁣

Heike Salzer is a German performer and choreographer, screendance artist and curator, lecturer and researcher, having lived and worked in several countries.⁣ Under the name of Salts she collaborates with international artists and her screendances have been invited to international venues such as the International Videodance Festival Burgundy (FR), Bogotá (COL), Bang-VII Barcelona Videoart Festival, (SP), Athens Video Dance Project (GR), Short Waves (PL) among others. ⁣Together with Ana Baer she founded the screendance company WECreate in 2014, producing collaboratively site-specific screendances, inspired by their travels to extreme landscapes. Their work has been shown in the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Ukraine, Portugal, Iran, Malta, Italy and the United States. ​ In 2018 she was invited to join the board of directors of the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema.⁣

Rob Burton is a visual artist and academic who explores themes of memory, loss and⁣ transformation through fiber, fabric making, costume, and mixed media practices and⁣ performance. His approaches to making cross the threshold of disciplines in a conceptual dialogue⁣ between the innovative use of analogue, contemporary and emerging technologies. Rob regularly⁣
exhibits internationally in group exhibitions, biennials and triennials in the USA, Europe and the⁣ UK. He is currently the Head of the School of Science, Engineering and Design at Teesside⁣ University, UK.⁣

Michelle Nance (Professor and Director of Dance at Texas State University, USA) has enjoyed⁣ many years of making dance works collaboratively with colleagues and students, as well as⁣ performing in the U.S. and abroad. Michelle has studied and taught the technique of Erick⁣ Hawkins extensively, and served as the Assistant School Director for the Erick Hawkins School⁣ of Dance in the mid-1990s. She also enjoys dabbling in improvisation, site-specific dance, somatic⁣ practices, and collaborations in screendance. She has been teaching at Texas State University⁣ since 2003, and holds a MFA from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
