Dance Limerick in partnership with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance are delighted to announce the Compass Associate Artist for 2026, Magdalena Hylak.
Dance Limerick partners with the Irish World Academy for the fourth consecutive year to offer a year-long residency to an Irish-based artist who cultivate a relationship with Limerick’s cultural scene and spaces through dance. Building on the successes of previous years’ residents, which have included artists such as Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín and Alex Vostokova, and their participation and contributions to the cultural fabric of our city, the new Associate Artist will continue to expand dance conversations, offering her dance practice to the professional dance community and wider communities in Limerick in meaningful ways.
Magdalena Hylak is a dance artist working in Ireland and internationally. Since 2021, she has been developing her own body of work, where she questions the notion of performance. At the core of her research is the movement and sound outside of the question of style/genre or technique. In 2022, with associated composer Lionel Kasparian, she created A DANCE, an ongoing artistic research through raw movement and sound that translates into public performances in unconventional spaces, which found its way to festivals in Ireland, France and Luxembourg across 2023-2025. Magdalena also tours nationally and internationally with John Scott | IMDT (IE) and Compagnie Nacera Belaza (FR), with over 200 performances across 14 countries.
This year-long residency at Dance Limerick will give her the space and support to push her practice forward and to explore further the connections between movement and sound with composer Lionel Kasparian. Throughout the year, she will be researching and testing new ideas in and for Limerick, building meaningful relationships with people and organisations across the city and creating a new work supported by the Arts Council’s Project Award 2026.
Magdalena is “absolutely thrilled by the opportunity” to be the Associate Artist with Dance Limerick for 2026 and is “excited to work within an environment grounded in dialogue, curiosity and exchange.”
A host of activities and sharing opportunities tied to this residency will allow local artists and community to engage with Magdalena’s practice throughout the year. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and X to stay up to date with all related news.
