CURATORIAL APPROACHES

Finding, filtering, mediating, mixing, creating, connecting and resourcing are key ingredients in generating meaningful and engaging artistic programmes.

You are invited to join us to hear Benjamin Perchet (Carlow Arts Festival), Jazmin Chiodi (Dublin Dance Festival) and Laurie Uprichard (artistic director of Firkin Crane) share their unique approaches and perspectives to presenting very special experiences for artists and audiences.

About the speakers

Benjamin Perchet is Artistic Director/CEO of Carlow Arts Festival since August 2021. Perchet is well known in the Irish scene for his leadership of Dublin Dance Festival from 2016 – 2021. He was previously Artistic Advisor for two major French institutions in Lyon: Maison de la Danse (2004 – 2015) and Biennale de la Danse (2008 – 2015). He has also been an Aerowaves partner, a founding board member of European Dancehouse Network (EDN) and a partner and management team member of Big Pulse Dance Alliance (BPDA), all of these networks and projects being co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the EU.

Born in Argentina and based in Ireland since 2005 Jazmin Chiodi is a dance artist and dance curator. She is the former co-director and founder of Tipperary Dance and TD International Festival that she programmed for twelve editions. In 2021, she has been appointed Artistic Director at Dublin Dance Festival her fist curated edition will be presented in May 2022. Her choreographic work with Iseli-Chiodi dance company has produced over a dozen pieces that toured in Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, USA, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Korea, Tunisia and the UK. Jazmin Chiodi holds an MA Festive Arts with First Class Honours (University of Limerick, Ireland). She worked as a guest lecturer at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick for more than a decade and collaborated in academic researches and publications including the IU research group for the Limerick 2020 European Cultural Capital bid.

Over the past four decades, Laurie Uprichard has curated contemporary dance and performance, both at the presenting organizations she led in the US and abroad, as well as for festivals and arts centers. Recently named Executive Artistic Director of Firkin Crane in Cork, Ireland, she previously served as Director & Curator of Performing Arts at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, and was Director of the Dublin Dance Festival. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of Danspace Project in New York City. She founded and curated the Travelogues Series at Abrons Arts Center, and guest-curated programs at New York’s Irish Arts Center, The Joyce Theater, and La MaMa, as well as at Paris’ Centre Culturel Irlandais.
