Contemporary Dance Classes

The current term is now underway, drop-in class rates available. If you would like to join the entire term at a discounted rate, please email info@dancelimerick.ie. Recordings of classes you missed are available.

These Contemporary Dance Classes are suitable for both beginners and those with experience in Contemporary Dance. The classes will help develop your creativity and technique through energetic and challenging phrases (sequences) and varied exercises. The aim of these classes is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease.

Class Format

Class will begin with light stretching, or somatic exercises. You will then learn some contemporary exercises to warm up the body and will work on learning choreography. You will incorporate techniques learned throughout class. Class will round off with a warm down to finish.

About Teacher Angie Smalis

Angie trained and worked professionally as a dance artist in Greece before moving to Vienna, Austria in 2001 to join the Viennese Opera (VolksOper Wien). She relocated to Limerick in 2003 to join Daghdha Dance Company. She is an independent contemporary dance artist, Artistic Director of Limerick Youth Theatre, and Founder and Director of Patterns Dance Collective, a group of dance artists with intellectual disabilities under the auspices of The Daughters of Charity Service, Limerick.

1. Important Information

These online classes take place live on Zoom with the option of watching a recording of the class if you missed it

​You will receive an email at least 1 hour before the class starts, with details of how to access the online class including the Zoom link. If you do not receive an email, please contact emer@dancelimerick.ie.

2. ​You Will Need

– A device with access to the internet and audio, placed on a table/chair at eye level. We recommend a laptop or computer if possible as it means you will see the other participants as well as the teacher. – A clear space to move in, free of movable furniture and all other hard objects
– The best floor surfaces are carpet, lino or wood, dancing on ceramic kitchen tiles or concrete is to be avoided please!
– Comfortable Clothes you can move in

Dance Limerick cannot be held responsible or liable for any injury to yourself, or damage to any personal property that may occur. We have put together a checklist to help minimise risk to yourself and those around you.
