We are excited to announce a 2-week set of Professional workshops with dance artist Yulia Arsen.
Fridays 17, 24 February | 12-1.30pm
Yulia Arsen is one of the recipients of our 2023 Percolate residencies. She is an interdisciplinary artist and choreographer who works at the intersection of dance, theatre and contemporary art. She is interested in the constant fluctuations between honesty and irony, the conceptual and the popular, fun and tragedy. Her work aims to engage the audience’s imagination. Yulia studied dance at Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich and SOZO Visions of Motion in Kassel. She received the Kulturamt der Stadt Kassel Grant in 2020. In 2022, she was selected as an Aerowaves artist for her solo Plastic Bag.
Solo-making is the compass of Yulia’s artistic practice. She tries to make a new solo every year in order to notice the development and mutations of her own choreographic language and performative skills.
During her residency at Dance Limerick she would like to invite dancers to join her in this ongoing research.
We will explore aspects of the self that are difficult to verbalise, such as the unconscious and the inner dialogue. We will work on presence, awareness and intuition, removing all unnecessary noise and judgement, testing some of the tools that have helped Yulia in the process of solo-making.
This workshop will be divided into two sessions:
17 Feb – The CREATION of the solo
24 Feb – PERFORMING the solo
