AOIBHINN O’DEA is a dance artist working across the contemporary dance and visual arts field. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art sculpture (NCAD), trained in Contemporary Dance (Tanzfabrik, Berlin) and completed her masters in Dance and Performance (UL). Her practice is often site-specific and public, exploring the effects normative social structures have on the body. Through dance she seeks to challenge the societal expectations around human interaction and behaviour.
Body Tuning
This class questions how we relate to sound in our surroundings. Sound is made up of vibrations in the air, the body is a landscape for it to bounce off and sweep through.
What do we choose to tune in to? What can restrict or motivate us to move? We will investigate how we relate to sound; exploring rhythms, vibrations and frequencies through improvisation. Through this listening or tuning we aim to break down movement patterns, and create choreography using images and action, abstraction and intention. Encouraging us to playfully embrace risks and discover new ways of moving, alone and as a community.
