Aoibhinn O’Dea in residence

Aoibhinn O'Dea will be in residence at Dance Limerick as part of our 2024 Percolate Residency Programme

AOIBHINN O’DEA is a dance artist working across the contemporary dance and visual arts field. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art sculpture (NCAD), trained in Contemporary Dance (Tanzfabrik, Berlin) and completed her masters in Dance and Performance (UL). Her practice is often site-specific and public, exploring the effects normative social structures have on the body. Through dance she seeks to challenge the societal expectations around human interaction and behaviour.

She collaborates with an array of multidisciplinary artists, who create pop-up musical/theatrical performances in public spaces and is also part of experimental noise group, Péist, who channel the cross over sound and movement through improvisation. She teaches inclusive dance workshops across Ireland underpinning an interest in making dance and performance more accessible to a wider audience. To date, her work has been supported by Light Moves, VISUAL, Carlow Arts Festival, Dance Limerick, UL Concert Hall, Temple Bar Gallery, The Complex, IMMA, Dance Ireland, Dublin Fringe Festival and Glastonbury Festival.

During this residency Aoibhinn will expand on her existing solo, ‘Start from 0′, which explores how sound affects the body and how the body affects sound. She views the body as a landscape or an instrument for sound to bounce off and sweep through. In collaboration with visual artist, Adam Gibney, she will experiment the relationship between the mediums of sound and dance, and research ways of creating live soundscapes in space through movement.

Aoibhinn will offer Friday morning class for professionals. Book here
