Tue 10 Sep 24

Studio Light Moves - Open Futures is thrilled to announce a new Masterclass Series taking place this Autumn at Dance Limerick.

– Real-time interactivity, sound & visuals with Andrew Quinn | Monday 21 & Tuesday 22 October 2024, 11am-6pm daily | €30

– Movement and scenography with MHz | Thursday 28 & Friday 29 November 2024, 11am-6pm daily | €30

The Masterclasses are aimed at professional artists working in the areas of dance, performance, technology, music, and production. They were developed as a result of Studio Light Moves – Open Futures commitment to investing in and nurturing creative process and inquiry in dance, technology and screen-based dance practices.

The series is made possible by Studio Light Moves – Open Futures and its partners, with a subsidized fee to promote access to the training. This year’s professional development programme is curated by Laura Murphy and Jürgen Simpson.

Andrew Quinn is an Australian computer graphics artist and musician, living in Milan. He has worked on digital effects for films such as The Matrix, Tomb Raider, Dark City, Nirvana and Vajont. He now specializes in video installations for multi-screen and immersive environments, digital sets for interactive dance productions, opera and contemporary music using TouchDesigner.

MHz (Megahertz) is a visual theatre and scenography company by creative duo Bex Anson and Dav Bernard who have spent over a decade devising performances for theatres, big tops, music festivals and DIY spaces. The company’s work is rooted in site-specific and immersive productions presented at music festivals and city locations to audiences from varied age groups and backgrounds.

Alongside a limited number of paid tickets available for both workshops, we are offering 2 Bursary Awards for artists to attend on a lottery basis. The bursary includes participation in both workshops in October & November as well as national travel and accommodation in Limerick for one night in October and one night in November. You must be available to attend both workshop dates to be eligible for the bursary.

To be added to the Bursary lottery, please email your name, phone number, and a brief description of your own practice (for the tutor’s information if you are selected) to: Emer Casey lightmovescommunication[at]gmail.com by 12pm on Tuesday 24 September 2024. Awardees will be notified by Monday 30 September.
