Dance Limerick Residencies 2015

Professional dance artists and ensembles are invited to submit proposals for projects to be researched and/or developed in 2015 at the studio, or the performance space, depending on the nature of the project. Residencies are open to national and international dance artists in all genres for a period of two weeks.
Aims
The Residency aims to provide:
1. professional dance artists with space and some support for research, experimentation, practice development and/or performance of new work
2. local dance professionals with opportunities for interaction and networking
The selection is competitive and the selection panel will choose artists who can make the best use of the facilities available and who will have a positive impact on the professional dance community.
Dance Limerick also has a particular interest in receiving applications from artists who wish to:
a) premiere new work at Dance Limerick
b) engage with local non-dance communities e.g. through conversations or research workshops, possibly leading to the making of new collaborative work
As part of each Residency, we encourage artists to share their work either through a work-in-progress showing or through a talk. First Fridays, an initiative of the MA in Contemporary Dance Performance at UL, is now well established in Limerick and this forum provides the opportunity for artists to share and talk about their work with like-minded professionals and advanced dance students. As the name suggests, this forum meets on the First Friday of each month and we try to programme residencies at Dance Limerick to coincide with these dates.
Both Dance Limerick and the studios at UL are accessible to wheelchair users.
About our Residencies
Residencies may be for the following purpose(s)
1. Exploration, research, development and experimentation or
2. Taking an already developed idea to the next stage or
3. Rehearsal / production weeks if premiering new work at Dance Limerick
What Dance Limerick can provide
• 2 weeks studio time
• If required, support in identifying local communities within whom you may wish to work
• Accommodation provided for up to 4 artists/collaborators in apartments or artist-friendly houses depending on availability at the time of the residency
• A contribution of up to €30 per person toward travel costs for up to 4 artists/collaborators
• Peer feedback if showing work at First Friday session
• Residency listing in our printed and online newsletter
What Dance Limerick asks in return
• That resident artists deliver a company class, at least once each week during residency
• That artists interact with the local dance community through sharing of work or a talk about your work
• That you contribute a news item for our website
• The Dance Limerick logo on all future publicity materials relating to the work resulting from your residency
• Your feedback and suggestions
Criteria for selection – Applicants must demonstrate:
• A close fit with the aims of the Residency
• A proven track record in making dance work
• A focus on new work that will be interesting / relevant within a local context and to local artists
• The ways in which the residency will contribute to the artist’s development and to his/her work
• A financial capacity to undertake the residency on the basis of what Dance Limerick can offer
• Feasibility, particularly within the context of Dance Limerick’s budget
Proposals will be assessed by a panel on the basis of the above criteria.
