Dance Limerick and Limerick City and County Council Arts Office invite proposals from Dance Artists for a residency based in Limerick from July 2014 – June 2015.
The successful Dance Artist will partner with the two organisations in making an application to the Arts Council’s Dance Artist in Residence Scheme 2014-15.
The aim of the Residency is to offer an Artist the opportunity to develop his/her own practice and to research and create a new collaborative dance work for presentation in Limerick. The Residency will be relevant to artists interested in working in a socially engaged manner in the development of new work with communities of place and/or interest. The Residency will offer opportunity for the Artist to develop an in-depth relationship with a community of his/her choice. The realisation of the Residency may result in a variety of outcomes including but not limited to the following:
The creation of a new work to premiere at Dance Limerick, on John’s Square or another appropriate space within the city or county
The professional development of the artist to produce new work, perhaps in a new context
The engagement of new audiences with dance as an art form
The facilitation of access to and participation in dance for a wider public
Examples of the context in which the Artist may choose to work might include health care, disability, science, cultural diversity, bus drivers, bankers or any community which shares a common interest either socially or through their work place.
Examples of Collaborative Projects
International examples of artists who work collaboratively are She She Pop and Rimini Protocol. An Irish example of a collaborative project might be Visual Artist Jessie Jones’ Prosperity Project with the OPW and The Convention Centre Dublin. The Artist in Residence may not reside full-time in Limerick but he/she is expected to be in residence for blocks of time at regular intervals throughout the 12 month period.
Budget and Resources
• €20,000 (pending successful Arts Council application)
• An additional €8,000 for realisation of the project.
• The performance and studio spaces at Dance Limerick will be available to the Artist for the purpose of researching, creating and performing. Spaces and times will need to be booked in advance.
• A desk at the offices of Dance Limerick on a part-time basis.
• Technical support for performances and projects taking place at Dance Limerick
• If not resident in Limerick, the Artist will have access to the Artists Apartments, operated by Limerick City & County Council for blocks of up to two months at a time. Dates for occupancy to be agreed and subject to availability.
• Promotional support for the residency and its activities through Dance Limerick’s regular marketing channels and through the City & County Council Arts Office’s online marketing channels, e-newsletters and social media.
Application Process
Please submit a detailed and fully costed proposal for the project you would like to undertake. This should include fees, materials costs, travel and other expenses.
This is a pre-submission process to the Arts Council’s Dance Artist-in-Residence Scheme and applicants should pay particular attention to the Arts Council’s Guidelines for applying to the scheme. Please use Arts Council template for this proposal – see external link.
Proposals should be accompanied by
• 2-3 online video samples of dance works and/or samples of previous projects.
• A CV / Biography of the Artist

Selection Criteria
• The quality, originality and ambition of the Artist as demonstrated in the proposal
• The capacity of the Artist to deliver the proposal within the available resources.
• The track record of the Artist within a field of dance practice relevant to this Residency
Selection Process
The successful applicant will be selected on the basis of the Proposal. Should it be necessary to shortlist applicants for interview, these will take place on Tuesday 29 April. The selected proposal will be submitted by Dance Limerick to the Arts Council’s Dance Artist-in-Residence scheme by Thursday 01 May.
