Florance by Angie Smalis

A screendance installation at the Limerick City Gallery of Art

‘Florance’ is a new screendance work for four dancers, one actor and a string quartet. It is presented as an installation with portions of the sets and costume featured in the film. Florance tells a fantastical story about the dominance of nature through the eyes of an art historian specializing in gardens, who’s also caring for an ailing mother. Set primarily in a nature preserve bordering her home, she discovers a relationship between repetition and individuality through the photography and the myth of Vertumnus and Virgil’s Georgics.

Performed by Angie Smalis, Rachel Sheil, Colin Gee and Colin Dunne

Gallery opening hours | Monday-Saturday 10am – 5pm, Sunday 12 – 5pm
