Pro classes with Isabella Oberländer

Dance artist Isabella Oberländer will offer a set of two morning classes this spring at Dance Limerick.

In these classes, Isabella will share some of their influences and ways of working with improvisational tools and choreographic containers that have shaped their practice.

The nature of the approach is eclectic and will source from chi-cultivation techniques such as Qi Gong (energy circulation technique) as a warm up. Improvisation, speculative fiction and physical anchors are central to orchestrating our attention and listening to our states of dance. Dancing can offer itself as a playground where concepts can be questioned, digested and embodied – in the joy of movement and the solidarity of sweat.

ISABELLA OBERLÄNDER is a dance artist and choreographer based in Limerick, Ireland, where they have aligned their performance practice with a wide range of queer feminist art-making. Their work evolves from a solo making practice, creating choreographic frameworks that embrace the materiality of the body and aim for a visceral articulation of physicality and thought. Working the imagination muscle, engaging with philosophical ideas and dancing their heart out are integral parts of their artistic practice.

Their ongoing collaborative project with Fearghus Ó Conchúir – ’Tearmann Aiteach/ Queer Sanctuary’ has been presented at Dublin Fringe Festival, Dance Limerick and Dance Cork Firkin Crane in fall 2024. They are a member of the Parsley Collective.

As a dance artist they are always seeking, they are always in motion.
