Limerick Dance Collective, a group of Limerick based professional dance artists, will celebrate International Dance Day on Friday 29 April with a performance of six new dance works, performed as one piece, entitled Making Space: Changing Ground.
With original sound composed by students of the MA in Music Technology at UL, this performance is a wonderful opportunity to experience creativity and innovation in the atmospheric surroundings and discrete spaces of Dance Limerick.

Limerick Dance Collective artists include Lisa Cahill, Lucy Dawson, Kristyn Fontanella, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, Isabela Oberländer and Micheál Rowsome.
Introducing this new work, Siobhan Ní Dhuinnín explains “In Making Space: Changing Ground, we examine the relationships we have with the shifting structures of the world around us. Creating a map of varied and individual responses to three words – Landscape, Mobility and Change – this unique dance performance showcases a fresh and inventive approach to collaboration. We’re also very excited to be working with students from the MA in Music Technology at UL, as part of this creative, organic process”.

Limerick Dance Collective is a group of artists who come from a wide variety of dance backgrounds and have choreographic and performance experience at a national and international level. Many are graduates of the MA in Contemporary Dance at the Irish World Academy at UL who have chosen to remain in Limerick and carve out professional dance careers in the Mid-West. The Collective was formed in 2015 when Megan Kennedy, then Limerick’s Dance Artist-in-Residence, extended an invitation to dance practitioners based in Limerick to come together to develop a collaborative project. Now in its second year, the Collective is delighted to have the support of current Dance Artist-in-Residence, Mary Wycherley, in continuing this process of collaboration and creativity, developing new dance movements to share with the people of Limerick.
The Limerick Dance Collective – Artist Information
Lisa Cahill is an independent dance artist, whose practice integrates performance, choreography and dance in education. Since 2014, Lisa has been Dance Artist-in-Residence at Maynooth University, in the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education. Lisa holds an MA in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Irish World Academy at UL and a Graduate Diploma in Dance Education from UL.
Lucy Dawson is originally from Keith, Scotland. Having trained at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in Dundee and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, Lucy worked in London on diverse projects including music videos, dance works, site specific projects and films. A graduate of the MA in Contemporary Dance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at UL, where she now teaches, Lucy combines videography and photography with her dance practice, specialising in performance documentation and artistic promotion.
Kristyn Fontanella holds an MA in Contemporary Dance Performance from UL and a BA in Dance and Theatre with high honours from CCSU. Later this year, Kristyn will be performing her duet with Sibéal Davitt As We Know It at the DRFI conference in New York and at the Tanzmesse Performance Platform in Dusseldorf. Kristyn was recently awarded the Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Bursary for her new work IN LIMBO, showing at Dance Limerick in September 2016.
Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín graduated in 2012 from the MA Contemporary Dance Performance at UL. Since then, she has worked with John Jasperse, Liz Roche (Step Up: Dance Project 2012), Jools Gilson and Laura Murphy. She is also a member of Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company. Siobhán’s own work has been shown nationally, most recently in a shop window as part of Quarter Block Party Festival (IRL).
Isabella Oberländer is originally from Austria and studied at Anton Bruckner University Linz. She was Dance Artist-in-Residence (DMP) at Daghdha Dance Company and part of the DanceWEB Scholarship Program at ImPulsTanz, Vienna International Dance Festival 2010. In 2014, Isabella was co-curator of Mind in the Flesh: Female Bodies in Contemporary Performance at Dance Limerick. Recently she performed in Vivienne Dick’s experimental film Red Moon Rising. She is currently working as a freelance dance artist and choreographer based in Limerick.
Micheál Rowsome’s passion for art and expression led him to study Multimedia at CIT. Much painting and photography followed with exhibitions and commissioned works. In 2013 he took part in SMASH Berlin, a life changing experimental physical performance programme. A period of collaborative work followed in 2014/15 with artists at Ponderosa Dance and SMASH Berlin. His work/play continues back home in Ireland with Limerick Dance Collective.
