HERE’S LOOKING AT YOU, KID: 50S+ DANCE PROJECT PERFORMANCE
Sunday 15 May | 3pm
Adm free | All welcome
Since early April, an enthusiastic gathering of people aged 50+, have been meeting at Dance Limerick to learn new moves and create their own dance phrases. Inspired by famous films, classic scenes and iconic movie stars, and led by choreographer Philippa Donnellan, Here’s Looking at You, Kid is now going public! Come along and celebrate life, laughter and dance with our wonderful new movers.
Drawing inspiration from classic scenes in famous films, this partnership project between Dance Limerick and CoisCéim BROADREACH, sees an enthusiastic group of Limerick’s older citizens transforming into movie icons from Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon to The Pink Panther.
Having started in early April, Here’s Looking at You Kid has seen participants from Limerick City and County meet twice a week to learn new moves and create their own dance phrases, bringing to life some of the magic, movement and mayhem of the silver screen. Choreographer Philippa Donnellan has been impressed with the talent and enthusiasm of the Limerick participants: “We have a great bunch of movers! Some of the group have done lots of dancing before, from rock n roll, to ballroom, but others are complete newcomers and have picked it up really quickly. We’ve had fantastic fun since coming together, so I can’t wait to see the response of the audience on May 15th”.
Jenny Traynor, Director of Dance Limerick, added “We have wanted for some time to run a project involving older people in dance, so we were delighted that Philippa and CoisCéim BROADREACH were able to partner with us. Here’s Looking at You Kid has also given us a great opportunity to link up with many of the organisations for older people locally, such as Limerick Seniors Forum, Probus, active retirement and other community groups. Our project participants are extraordinary: They have such energy, vitality and humour. We’re really looking forward to seeing them perform for the public for the first time”.
