CONTEMPORARY DANCE FOR ADULTS
Book : Tue 19 Mar '19

Class led by dance artist Celina Jaffe, term lasts for 8 weeks.

The aim of these classes is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease.

Each session holds a dynamic structure: Classes include an introduction to floor-work, partner-work, and improvisation. With space to develop mind/body coordination as well as inner listening, students will be comfortable as first-time dancers or those coming back to movement after a break.

Each session builds on and finishes with a movement sequence which is mastered by the end of the 8 week period. Celina facilitates a relaxing yet exciting environment where the body's natural intuition and playfulness will be explored and appreciated.

Flying Low with Lucia Kickham
Book : Fri 22 Mar '19

Flying Low is a dance technique developed by Venezuelan dance artist David Zambrano. It’s main focus is the dancer’s relationship with the floor. Passing Through is a complex system of spontaneous composition based on collective leadership, interconnection and infinite possible pathways in space. In this workshop Lucia will introduce the participants to the key elements of these movement approaches.

The workshop builds up from gentle exercises which examine the natural spiral patterns within the body and develops into more energetic and expansive sequences. We will concentrate on pathways and use of energy as opposed to strict forms.

While aiming for speed in our movement we will also search to maintain a relaxed, easy body and acute awareness to our surroundings. Groundedness, efficiency of movement, practicality, open awareness and group dynamics are important elements at play in this movement training. This is an energetic workshop exploring the mechanics of the body, group consciousness and decision making.
