Dance Limerick Studio

Dates: 15, 22, 29 January, 12, 19, 26 February, 4, 11 March (Please note there is no class on Wednesday 5 February).

Ballet is a technical form of dance training with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. As well as being good for the body and mind it requires discipline and focus. Our Ballet Classes for Adults provide a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for total beginners (Beginner Class) and also those with previous dance experience (Improver Class).

This class promotes fitness, good posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, spatial awareness and rhythm. You will learn ballet positions and patterns in a traditional structured class, consisting of a warm up, barre and centre exercises, and finally, a relaxing warm down routine incorporating improvised movements to music.

About teacher Roy Galvin

A native of Limerick city, Roy Galvin has had a long and distinguished career as a professional ballet dancer. Having trained with The Irish Ballet Company - the first male dancer to train to professional standard without having to leave Ireland - Roy danced professionally with The Irish Ballet Company/Irish National Ballet and as principal dancer with Dublin City Ballet Company, touring extensively throughout Ireland and overseas.

With his own Pas de Deux Dance Company, Roy performed regularly at The National Gallery of Ireland and The National Concert Hall. At the invitation of John Scott, he was appointed the first ballet master with Irish Modern Dance Theatre. More recently, Roy has worked in television and radio as a choreographer and dance correspondent. Recently Roy was a senior judge on the popular weekly TG4 talent competition Scór Encore. Roy was a founding member of APDI (the Association of Professional Dancers in Ireland Ltd, now Dance Ireland).

We also offer a ballet class for improvers or those with recent ballet experience. Click here for details.
