LIMERICK YOUTH DANCE STARTS NEW TERM WITH FREE OPEN SESSION FOR NEW MEMBERS
Wed 08 Apr '15

Limerick Youth Dance, run by Dance Limerick, will begin its new term on Wednesday 15 April with an open session for new members at Dance Limerick Studio, John’s Square, Limerick. Limerick Youth Dance is an ensemble of young people aged 15-25 years interested in developing as dancers, performing on stage and screen and meeting other like-minded young people. The open session is a great opportunity for any young person interested in giving dance a go. All are welcome. This session is free and will run from 6pm-8pm. Limerick Youth Dance meets every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at Dance Limerick Studio. Joining Limerick Youth Dance means making a commitment to be part of a dance ensemble - a group of people dedicated to dance projects - participating in weekly workshops and meeting other young dancers. Limerick Youth Dance has been very active in the past year, creating and presenting performances with Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, students from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at UL and producer/composer NUBUS. The members were also part of the hugely successful Culture Night celebration at John’s Square with Music Generation, Limerick Youth Theatre and Scoil Uí Ruairc Irish Dancing School. Limerick Youth Dance is led by dance artist Angie Smalis. Angie trained and worked professionally as a dance artist in her home country of Greece before moving to Vienna, Austria in 2001 to join the Volksoper Wien. She relocated to Limerick in 2003 to join Daghdha Dance Company. In addition to Limerick Youth Dance, at Dance Limerick Angie also teaches a Contemporary Dance Class for Over 55s every Monday and a Contemporary Dance Class for Adults every Tuesday. She is Artistic Director of Limerick Youth Theatre and Director of Patterns Dance Collective, a group of contemporary dance artists with intellectual disabilities. Angie is also a proud mother of 5!

Click on link to the right to book tickets for Neither Either. Inspired by the writings of Seamus Heaney, the Liz Roche Company (Dublin) and Maiden Voyage Dance (Belfast) join forces to perform a new dance work that explores the predicament of living out two conflicting states of mind at once. Choreographed by Liz Roche and set to an original score by Neil Martin, identities, beliefs, emotions and aspirations are put to the test in this poignant blend of dance, poetry and music. Conflicting identities and habits within oneself, adapting to change and drawing distinctions are at the crux of the piece which looks to Heaney’s quote from Place and Displacement.
