About Andrea Goodman:
Andrea Goodman is one of the original singers in the Meredith Monk Vocal Ensemble, appearing in theatre and concerts world-wide from 1974 to 1991. She appeared in the films “Ellis Island” and “Book of Days”, Peter Greenaway’s “Four American Composers” and five Meredith Monk albums, including “Dolmen Music” and “Turtle Dreams.”
Living in Maine since 1989, Andrea works with Figures of Speech Theatre as singer, composer, music director, actress and puppeteer, most recently singing David Lang’s “Little Match Girl Passion” for an exquisite theatrical production of the story, presented at Bates College. Andrea also performs, with Anna Dembska, as Music of a New Frequency, an improvisational duo.
Andrea recently sang in the opera-in-progress, “The Nubian Word for Flowers” by author Ione and composer Pauline Oliveros, and previously in their opera “Io and Her”.
Andrea has taught voice internationally, privately and in workshops, for 38 years, including in Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden and Ireland. Over the last 26 years, she has developed Cosmic Harmony, a class to transmit and facilitate vocal sound healing and the free flow of intuitive singing. An ordained minister/priestess since 1998, she is the founder of Ruby-Throated Spirit, Sanctuary, Studio and Labyrinth, where she offers weddings and other ceremonies, retreats, voice lessons, sound healing, astrology and Tarot. Her CD, “Divine Doorways,” in collaboration with percussionist Gerry Hemingway, features improvisations on Tarot archetypes. Andrea’s book, Lightning Holds My Hand, A Woman’s Journal of Guidance (2008), was referred to as “A beacon…to illuminate the dark night of the soul.” (Donna Henes). Her poetry and essays, including monthly astrological messages, appear in anthologies and journals.
