Rachel Drazek in residence
Rachel is a dance theatre maker, movement practitioner, researcher and PhD candidate at the Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE), Coventry University. Her movement practice uses a person-centred approach and aims to foster agency and confidence in body expression.
Rachel has made work for Stellar Quines and Birds of Paradise Theatre Company amongst others. Her PhD investigates Intimacy and Inclusion in Dance, considering how consent is approached and practiced in dance. Her research concerns Intimacy Direction within inclusive dance and aims to understand further the implications and realities of power within a rehearsal room and further.
During this residency, Rachel hopes to explore the practice-led research of her doctoral research, which would also lay foundations for a new piece of work. She will be collaborating with dance artist Kimberley Harvey, who she has been cultivating a discursive relationship over their shared interest in intimacy within dance.
Rachel and Kimberley will explore how a critical disability lens might inform or reimagine intimacy within performance contexts and how consent/intimacy intersect with access, critical improvisation and embodied experiences of being-in-relationship.
Kimberley Harvey will teach an inclusive youth dance workshop on Wednesday 19 November – more info and bookings here
Rachel will be offering a professional class on Friday 21 November – book here
