Magdalena Hylak in residence
As part of her work as Dance Limerick’s Associate Artist, Magdalena has recently been working with students from the MA in Dance Performance programme in the University of Limerick, focusing on performance qualities shaped by her extensive experience performing nationally and internationally for over a decade. A key collaborator with French choreographer Nacera Belaza and Ireland’s John Scott, she brought a rich, practice-based perspective to the studio. As part of this process, students also learned Merce Cunningham’s solo 50 Looks, which Magdalena performed in Paris earlier this year.
The sessions explored different approaches to working with sound—an element central to Magdalena’s own artistic practice. She will continue developing this work in Limerick in early May, ahead of sharing of work-in-progress as part of the Dublin Dance Festival 2026 with associate composer Lionel Kasarian and an international cast of dancers including Isabella Oberlander, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín and Ashley Chen.
For this next phase, she will be joined by dancers for 2 weeks of residency. The fully developed piece will be shown at Dance Limerick this September.
Stay tuned for more news on Magdalena’s work and upcoming performances.
