Ballet for Adults with Rebeca Mateos Morante - IMPROVERS
Thu 19 Oct '17 to Thu 07 Dec '17

Ballet for Adults with Rebeca Mateos Morante This class develops good posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, spatial awareness and rhythm inherent both to Ballet as well as to a healthy body and mind. Ballet is not only a beautiful dance discipline, it also promotes the development of mental concentration and memory recall, together with body toning, strengthening and elongation of the muscular structure. Participants will learn basic ballet positions and patterns in a traditional structured class, consisting of a warm up, barre and centre exercises, and finally a relaxing warm down routine, incorporating improvised movements to music. About Rebeca Mateos Morante Rebeca Mateos Morante has toured extensively both with the critically acclaimed Compañía Elvira Andrés led by the ex-director of the National Ballet of Spain, and as Flamenco soloist with the international dance phenomenon Riverdance. She has worked with many prestigious choreographers, having performed one of the last productions of the famous Bodas de Sangre under the direction of its celebrated choreographer, the late Antonio Gades. Rebeca forms part of the last generation of professional dancers to have trained at the renowned Centro Coreográfico Mariemma in Madrid incorporating extensive professional conservatory training in Classical Ballet, Bolero School, Spanish Stylised Dance, Spanish Folk Dances and Flamenco. In ballet alone she has trained under renowned masters such as Julia Estévez, Carmina Ocaña, Nadine Boisaubert and Patricia Crosbie, among others. Rebeca is currently studying for her PhD at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance where she guest lectures in both theoretical and performance based modules. A philosophy graduate with a first class honours Masters in Psychoanalysis and Cultural Studies, her own academic research output includes conference presentations, publications and choreographies that explore themes associated with her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis “The Dancer in the Mirror: Body Identity and Body Motion in Danza Española”.

Contemporary Dance Class
Contemporary Dance for Adults with Salma Ataya
Tue 17 Oct '17 to Tue 05 Dec '17

The aim of these classes is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease. Informed by postmodern dance and somatic principles, each class will begin with simple warm-up exercises and build progressively towards more expansive movement phrases which travel out into the space. All of the activities are based on practices/techniques which will help to release tensions which limit the range of movement. This will, in turn, allow each person to move with greater clarity and efficiency, to regain a sense of the natural flow of their movement and to enjoy their own unique dancing body.
