Contemporary Dance Class
Contemporary Dance for Adults with Salma Ataya
Tue 17 Oct '17 to Tue 05 Dec '17

The aim of these classes is to provide an opportunity for participants to develop the skill and confidence to dance with ease. Informed by postmodern dance and somatic principles, each class will begin with simple warm-up exercises and build progressively towards more expansive movement phrases which travel out into the space. All of the activities are based on practices/techniques which will help to release tensions which limit the range of movement. This will, in turn, allow each person to move with greater clarity and efficiency, to regain a sense of the natural flow of their movement and to enjoy their own unique dancing body.

Mon 27 Nov '17 to Wed 29 Nov '17

Workshop with Maria Scaroni: Body / Material 27 – 29 November | Dance Limerick | 10am-4pm | €60 / €50 concession Email emer@dancelimerick.ie for queries and bookings. This laboratory suits anyone who is interested in the body as a site of knowledge, as a forest of symbols or simply as a phenomenon to be felt, visually, kinaesthetically and verbally. A certain stamina is required, but no specific skill, therefore it is open to any moving body. Maria invites the participants to look and treat the body as material, addressing its organic functions and spiritual potential as well as its cultural implications. The nature of the approach is eclectic and sources from ‘chi’ cultivation techniques such as Qi Gong and Pranayama (breathing techniques), spine and limbs patterns explorations (body connectivity, proprioceptive systems), hands-on work (experimental body-alchemy teaching from Sara Shelton Mann) and elements of improvisation to transmute through different states.
