PROFESSIONAL CLASS | Tuesday 9 & 16 December | 10.00am - 11.30am | Dance Limerick Studio €7 on the door As part of her residency at Dance Limerick, choreographer Angie Smalis will host two professional classes in December. Through a bodily research of simple ideas, participants will create an environment of a continuous exchange of movement material, information and energy. Through improvisation and devising of ideas, the body and mind will be allowed to develop patterns in space and within, that might be transmitted to one's personal contemporary dance practice and can be used to inspire countless ways of teaching younger and older participants. This methodology is known as An Open System, which does not mean that anything can happen in it: rather that information, energy and material are continually received. This class is one of a series of professional classes offered by Dance Limerick which are suitable for professional dancers, graduate students and others who have undergone intense technical training.
As part of our series of morning professional classes, Megan Kennedy, Limerick's first Dance Artist-in-Residence, will host two classes in October. Dance Limerick Residencies 2015 | Closing Date 10 October 2014 Professional dance artists and ensembles are invited to submit proposals for projects to be researched and/or developed in 2015 at the studio, or the performance space, depending on the nature of the project. Residencies are open to national and international dance artists in all genres for a period of two weeks. Aims The Residency aims to provide: 1. professional dance artists with space and some support for research, experimentation, practice development and/or performance of new work 2. local dance professionals with opportunities for interaction and networking The selection is competitive and the selection panel will choose artists who can make the best use of the facilities available and who will have a positive impact on the professional dance community. Dance Limerick also has a particular interest in receiving applications from artists who wish to: a) premiere new work at Dance Limerick b) engage with local non-dance communities e.g. through conversations or research workshops, possibly leading to the making of new collaborative work As part of each Residency, we encourage artists to share their work either through a work-in-progress showing or through a talk. First Fridays, an initiative of the MA in Contemporary Dance Performance at UL, is now well established in Limerick and this forum provides the opportunity for artists to share and talk about their work with like-minded professionals and advanced dance students. As the name suggests, this forum meets on the First Friday of each month and we try to programme residencies at Dance Limerick to coincide with these dates. Both Dance Limerick and the studios at UL are accessible to wheelchair users. Proposals will be assessed by a panel on the basis of the criteria in the attached information sheet. Applications should be made on the accompanying application form and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org Closing Date for receipt of applications is Friday 10 October 2014
